Let’s Live for Today

The worst I can say is nitpicks (Massive Spoilers)

The Last Stop in Yuma County primarily takes place at the last stop in Yuma County—surprising, I know. More specifically, the film takes place in the ’70s at a rest stop whose filling station has run out of gas, leaving travelers stranded at the diner next door. The first patron we meet is a knife salesman (Jim Cummings) who is served by Charlotte (Jocelin Donahue), the diner’s sole worker. Several more patrons quickly join them, and here’s a brief rundown.

Anthems For A 17 Year-Old Girl

A different kind of horror. (Massive Spoilers)

I Saw The TV Glow is something of a conundrum for me. It’s a movie that I loved and have to talk about. Except, I want to say it was John Squires, Editor-In-Chief at Bloody Disgusting, who recommended going into the movie completely blind, and I’m glad I did. My problem is that it’s a movie that’s hard to analyze without spoiling the hell out of it. So, I’d say watch the film first, then read this review. If you do that, then go ahead and skip the next section.

A Child’s Plaything Part 3

A review of Chucky season 3. (Spoilers)

Every season of the show thus far has seen a location change, and this time, Chucky (Brad Dourif) has infiltrated the White House. The season premiere introduces us to the first family. There’s President James Collins (Devon Sawa), who somehow got elected as an independent, and First Lady Charlotte (Lara Jean Chorostecki), whose moral compass isn’t quite as straight as her husband’s. There’s also Grant (Jackson Kelly), a moody teenager, and Henry (Callum Vinson),  Chucky’s new owner.

California Dreamin’

From Series To Film

Clare (Maika Monroe) is a rideshare driver and aspiring screenwriter who recently moved to LA from Wamega, Kansas. One night, she picks up a stranger with the profile name Carl E. (Dane DeHaan), though the way he points out that’s an anagram of Clare makes it pretty obvious that’s an alias. And thus begins a cat and mouse game which plays out over the course of 12 hours.

Not So Much A Treat

i.e. the book was better (Massive Spoilers)

Dark Harvest, based on the novel of the same name by Norman Partridge, is about a creature that rises out of the cornfields every Halloween. While the creature has several nicknames, it’s primarily referred to as the October Boy in the novel. In the film, it’s called Sawtooth Jack, probably because that sounds a lot cooler. Its body is also much more humanoid, I’m guessing because that’s easier to pull off with a man in a suit.

Six Degrees of Peter Jackson

An American Movie Made By Australians

One winter day, Charlotte (Alyla Browne) discovers what appears to be an ordinary spider in her apartment building, who she catches and names Sting. Except, in actuality, Sting is from outer space and just looks like a spider. So, as a result, she isn’t hampered by that pesky square-cube law that prevents Earth spiders from getting any bigger than they are, less they be suffocated by the weight of their own exoskeletons.

Festival of the Oxymoron

Watch Night Before This One

In this direct sequel to the original classic, a festival to commemorate the zombie uprising has been established in the 55 years since the incident. Ostensibly to celebrate life and commemorate the people who lost their lives. In reality it’s just an excuse to party. The only reason Ash (Ashley Moore) goes is because her favorite band is playing. Leaving her best friend Iris (Camren Bicondova) in the care of Ash’s little brother, Luke (Shiloh O’Reilly).

Aquarela do Brasil

Well, that was interesting.

Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) is an office worker in this highly dsyfunctional bureaucratic, consumerist, dystopian nightmare. At night, however, he dreams of soaring through the skies and rescuing a beautiful young woman. One day, he discovers Jill Layton (Kim Greist), a truck driver who’s trying to seek justice for Archibald Buttle (Brian Miller), a citizen killed due to a simple technological error.

Boy Parts

A Good Valentine’s Day Movie

Lisa Swallows (Kathryn Newton) has moved to a new town after her mother was violently murdered. Her father Dale (Joe Chrest) has remarried this awful woman named Janet (Carla Gugino)(yes, that is a Rocky Horror reference) and now has a stepsister named Taffy (Liza Soberano). Lisa ends up spending a lot of time hanging out in the bachelor cemetery, where there’s a grave featuring a bust of a handsome young man.
