A horror movie sequel that’s a little hard to explain without giving something away

Happy Death Day 2U is the follow up to Happy Death Day, one of the many films that came out alongside the great horror movie resurgence of 2017. Other examples include It, Split, and of course, Get Out. Both Happy Death Day films lean more towards the comedy genre to an extent greater than those other films. Rivaled only really by Get Out, a movie that did get funny (NSFW) every once despite it’s dark subject matter. Not that I’m saying that Happy Death Day is in any way a better movie than Get Out.

This is the sequel I’ve waited 14 years for?

Just to be clear, it’s not that the movie’s bad, it’s just that it’s…disappointing

The Parr family is back, in this long-awaited sequel to the 2004 animated classic. Continuing right where the original film left off, Mr.Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner), and Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile and Nicholas Bird) wind up in hot water after failing to stop there latest supervillain. Enter sibling team Winston (Bob Odenkirk) and Evelyn Deavor (Catherine Keener), who come to them with a plan to lift the ban on superheroes. Except, what’s this, the Deavors don’t want Mr. Incredible to be their spokesperson. Instead, they want Elastigirl?

It’s like the drama to Ocean 8’s comedy

Well, that was fun.

Widows is a movie brought to us by Steve McQueen, director of 12 Years a Slave, and Gillian Flynn, writer of the novel Gone Girl and its film adaption. It’s also a film adaption of the 1983 ITV series of the same name.

How can a movie so funny be so sad?

Sorry to Bother You is a well-done film, though if you work as a telemarketer somewhere like, say Drake Phonathon, then you’re probably not going to want to see this movie. Unless of course, you want to sit through a film that’s all about how you’re an agent of the evil and all-powerful force that is capitalism.

A superhero movie that will leave you saying ‘meh’

Similar to a movie that I had reviewed earlier, Venom begins high up in space with a crashing spaceship. Only this ship is from a human company, the Life Foundation, and instead of a predator, it’s carrying several alien symbiotes. Following the crash, one of the symbiotes, Riot, escapes, killing several innocent humans and embarks on the classic villain plan of taking over the world.

Currently, The Nun (2018) is the fifth installment of The Conjuring franchise, not counting the “My Annabelle Creation” winner The Nurse. The franchise is also notable for being a modern, shared universe of horror films that were, for the most part successful, bar a couple of exceptions. Something that Universal has thus far failed to do.

The Predator marks the fourth addition to the long-running franchise, not counting the now non-canon Alien vs. Predator movies. Fun fact, this film’s director and co-writer, Shane Black, was one of the actors in the original movie. He played Hawkins, the team member who had ‘I’m going to die first’ stamped across his forehead.
